The aim of my project is to create an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes in the combination of the styles of 19th century London newspapers and early 20th century pulp magazines.

For this i realized that my existing art style needs to evolve and to adapt to these different pieces of media that im drawing from. Since most of them are colorless due to the limitations at the time i tried to do some pencil/pen drawings only using the white of the page, grey pencil and black ink as coloring methods.

Since the style of these original pieces of media are vary detail based i first tried to mimic a more simplistic art style with my pencil. I chose the style of the disney channel animated series "The Owl House". As i am a fan of the show and the style was simple enough for my purposes. (I chose to draw characters from the "Harry Potter" book series because it would help me with adapting new characters into this style and also because i was hyper fixated on them for a couple of days.)

After making these i am now confidant in attempting to meld and mimic the art styles of the pieces of media that i want to base my project on.

Which are late 19th century, british news paper:

And early-mid 20th century Pulp Fiction magazines. (more specifically i chose the ones done by Marshall Frantz, Paul Stahr, N.C. Wyeth, and Margaret Brundage, as i found them the most interesting and best suited for the task at hand).

Marshall Frantz:

Paul Stahr:

N.C Wyeth:

Margaret Brundage:

I will re-draw all of the Sherlock Holmes characters that i've adapted in a style that will be a blend of every one if these artists styles while still keeping it original. Wish me luck and i will post the attempts here once they are done.
